Primary Support Base

The Primary Support Base (PSB) is a service available to primary schools within the district of St Albans and Harpenden. The aim of this service is to provide an inclusive model of support for children with social, emotional and behavioural needs for an intense period of time.

Through our service schools will receive help for identified pupils which may affect their (and other pupils’) ability to access the curriculum and their achievement potential.

The initial support will generally be in the form of “extended roll”, where pupils receive support from a base member of staff whilst in their own school. This is known as outreach support. Following this support many pupils are able to continue in a mainstream setting. Other pupils may join the PSB for a period of intensive support and assessment.

Bowmansgreen Primary School is the host school for the PSB. Its purpose is to support the education of pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, including emotional and behavioural difficulties. It is located in a fully equipped classroom, with specialist equipment and dedicated staff.

Our base is noted for its inclusive practice and the staff team have specialist knowledge, experience and proven skills in this field which promote a positive approach, whilst supporting SEMH pupils.
