The Dog’s Trust

Gemma (Dogs Trust’s Education and Community Officer for Hertfordshire) visited us again this week to work with Reception up to Year 3 and to give us all an assembly on staying safe around dogs! In assembly, the whole school learnt the three steps to safely stroke a dog:
1. Ask the owner if you can
2. Let the dog sniff the back of your hand
3. Ask the owner where you should stroke the dog.
In their workshops, pupils learnt about the times it would not be safe to stroke a dog. For example, if we might disturb them, such as when they are eating or sleeping or if they are without their owner.

Sports News from Mr Sanders – 12.01.18

Boys v SASS
The boys hosted St Alban & St Stephen in the league this afternoon and won 4-0. All the goals were scored in the first half with James scoring 3 and George smashing the 4th just before half time. The lads started well and James looked dangerous as he poached all 3 goals from inside the area following good work from Ollie and Alfie. Ollie also created George’s goal with good footwork inside the area. Alfie, Isa, Jack and Freddie made sure that Taye was a spectator throughout the whole first half.
The 2nd half was slightly different as SASS finally woke up and put more pressure on the Bowmansgreen defenders. Tommy had to work hard to break up the attacks from the centre of midfield and Taye was alert with his positioning and handling as SASS created far more than they had in the first half. Final Score Bowmansgreen 4-0 SASS
Team Jack, Taye, George, Freddie, Alfie, Tommy, James, Ollie & Isa

Year 3 and Year 4 Spanish Carol Concert

Year 3 and Year 4 performed Bowmansgreen’s first ever carol concert in Spanish…… and it was amazing! Parents were thoroughly entertained by fantastic singing, acting and Spanish and it was a pleasure to watch. We hope that family members enjoyed the concert and I am sure they will join me in saying thank you to all of the staff involved in making it such a wonderful concert.

Bowmansgreen in the Snow!

The snow may have prevented the school from opening on Monday, on Tuesday however, the children were able to return to school and they thoroughly enjoyed playing in what was left of the snow!

Headteacher’s Message – 15.12.17

Today, we have had an exclusive! This morning, Year 3 and Year 4 performed Bowmansgreen’s first ever carol concert in Spanish…… and it was amazing! Parents were thoroughly entertained by fantastic singing, acting and Spanish and it was a pleasure to watch. We hope that family members enjoyed the concert and I am sure they will join me in saying thank you to all of the staff involved in making it such a wonderful concert.
On Wednesday, staff and pupils enjoyed Christmas lunch together. Traditional Christmas food was served by some of our Year 6 pupils, including our always-reliable house captains. Crackers and Christmas songs helped to make it a very special lunchtime. As always, pupils were very well-mannered and behaved and from the feedback, empty plates and smiles, they all enjoyed themselves.
It was lovely to see pupils in their Christmas jumpers today, helping to raise funds for Save the Children as well as ensuring that they looked very festive for their class Christmas parties. Thank you to all parents who sent in food – do not be surprised if your child does not eat as much dinner as usual tonight!
On Monday, we will be holding our first Bowmansgreen ‘house’ event of the year. All pupils will be working, as part of their house team, on a piece of Christmas craftwork. The finished articles will be displayed and judged and a winning house will be announced. We hope this will be the first of many fun house activities which pupils will take part in throughout the year.
With a day and a half left of the term, this will be the final newsletter of 2017. Please remember that school closes at 1.30pm on Tuesday (Golden Opportunities is open until 4.30pm).
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy holiday and we look forward to seeing you in 2018.
