Pupils have started their first full week at Bowmansgreen with enthusiasm. They are becoming more confident and familiar with the school rules, routines and expectations and looking after their classroom environment and equipment.

Lunchtimes are going well, with pupils showing good manners at the dining table, trying new foods and enjoying the social time with their friends.

Our reception classes have made a super start at Bowmansgreen. Children have been busy making friends, getting to know the class adults and their new learning environment.

Today, children will stay for their first lunchtime and finish at 1.30pm.

Please ensure that all of your child’s uniform and belongings are clearly named, including water bottles and shoes.

Half term already!

It has been a very busy half term in Reception. We spent the first part learning about Pokémon and superheroes; the children loved changing our reading area into a superhero village and role playing superheroes in class.

We used this topic for our Design and Technology project where all of the children were tasked with creating a trap to catch an evil villain! Reception had such wonderful ideas, of using nets, boxes and crates to catch their villain. Please do have a look at the video that will be shared after half-term, showing you all of the children’s D&T work.

Our next topic is going to be ‘transport’ where we will look at and learn about different types of transport including buses, boats, planes and trains. We have some exciting stories to share with the children, including ‘The Naughty Bus’ and ‘Whatever Next!’

If you take part in something exciting or use different types of transport during the half term, please remember to share them with us via Tapestry. We really look forward to seeing some of the fun activities you take part in, during the break.

EYFS Blog

Hello and welcome to all of our new children and families in Reception. It has been wonderful getting to know the children and learning about the things that they have been doing with their families during the summer holidays. The children have settled into their new school amazingly well – we are so proud of them!
We have been spending lots of time playing and learning in our outside area; the vegetables, the sand area and the bikes are already some of the favourite areas to explore.
So far, children have been practising writing their names and drawing pictures of their families. They have taken tours around the school and even had their first PE lessons with Miss Bliss. They have really enjoyed playing with the fire engines and creating their own with junk modelling. They have also been practising their counting with the songs 5 Little Ducks and 5 Current Buns.
The next few weeks will be spent learning a little about our similarities and our differences and familiarising ourselves with the Bowmansgreen school rules, ‘Be kind, Be safe and Be Respectful.’ This week we have been learning about Elmer and why it is so important to be kind.
If you would like some ideas of games and activities that you can do with your child at home, please refer to our school website under the Learning, Phonics and Curriculum tabs.

EYFS News

Last week was a great week in Reception!

Children have been working hard on their Phase 2 phonics, learning the “m, d and g” letters and sounds as well as consolidating their SATPIN sounds. Can you find any of these sounds around your home?

The children loved sharing their home learning with their classmates and talking about what they did at home with you. Please remember that home learning is handed in on Tuesday. Reading books and library books are changed every Thursday.
A big ‘thank you’ to all parents choosing lunches with their children at home.
This week, will again share our weekend news and continue to make a time line from when the children were born to now. Can you please talk with your children about any significant events that have happened in their lifetimes i.e. little brother or sister being born, learning to ride a bike etc?
In phonics we will be learning the sounds “o, c and k”. In Maths we will be practising number recognition and our careful counting.
It promises to be another super week in EYFS!
