Thank you to everyone who attended our final curriculum evening of the year. The Bowmansgreen art gallery was open for viewing with art work from across the school on display. Pupils have worked really hard on their art activities this half-term and we hope that you were impressed by their final pieces.

Yesterday was also an opportunity for parents in KS1 and KS2 to meet their child’s new class teacher and we hope that you took the opportunity to say ‘hello.’ Between now and the end of term, we will ensure that pupils receive a supportive transition towards their new classes. We recognise that some pupils will benefit from additional opportunities to meet their new teachers and familiarise themselves with their new classrooms and this will be built in to the remainder of this term.

The Healthforkids website is a new resource for Hertfordshire families that covers health-related subjects for children aged 4-11 years. It contains articles, advice and signposts to services and other resources in the Parents/Carers section whilst the children’s section includes games, activities and information about healthy minds and bodies, bereavement, how to access help and thinking about feelings.  https://www.healthforkids.co.uk/

BeeZee Families is another resource being recommended by our school nursing team. BeeZee Families is a healthy lifestyles programme which is free for 5-15 year olds and their families living in Hertfordshire.  The programme is led by nutritionists and behaviour change experts and focuses on making changes towards a healthier lifestyle.

Tomorrow, the Bowman music festival takes place. Don’t panic if you haven’t already purchased a ticket –  there is still the opportunity to purchase on the gate. It promises to be a great family event, with food, music and lots to keep the whole family entertained. It would be lovely to see you there in support of this event which will help raise money for our school.

New Classes

Today, we held our ‘meet the teacher’ morning , where children in KS1 and KS2 met with their new teachers and support staff for September. Parents will be notified of the names of the their new teachers, by email.

Our reception children will be introduced to their new teachers and classrooms tomorrow morning. Parents, you will have this information confirmed tomorrow afternoon.

After school today, there is the opportunity to say ‘hello’ to your child’s new teacher during our opening evening, 3-4pm and then 6-7pm. It is also our final curriculum evening of the year and an opportunity to see some wonderful work at our art exhibition.

What a busy week it has been at Bowmansgreen!

Friday’s celebration assembly is always a highlight of my week as it is a time to come together as a whole school to celebrate the behaviour and achievements of our wonderful pupils. This week, I was lucky enough to have Maisie by my side, to help me announce the names of pupils who were being celebrated this morning. Maisie did a fantastic job of  presenting the cockerel cards and trophies. Thank you Maisie – you are a star!

Parents who joined us for this morning’s celebration assembly were able to hear the first performance of our new school song.  Mrs Flatt has been working with Year 5, during their music lessons, to write the lyrics and create a school song that represents our ethos, values and school life at Bowmansgreen. Thank you Mrs Flatt and Year 5 – you have done a super job. Our school song sounds amazing!

Maisie had earned the opportunity to help me with my assembly duties as a result of her bid in the staff auction at the summer fair. Other auction winners include Lyra who, with her guests, joined Miss Golding for lunch today and Ella and Kiera who have been busy baking scones with Mrs Stanley.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support their children and enjoy sports day with us on Wednesday. It was a great day and pupils in all year groups had fun taking part. Congratulations to Morpurgo House for being our winning sports day team.

Congratulations to Keira and Lucy for getting through to the final of the Rotary Club’s Junior Bake Off. The final takes place at Sandringham School on July 17th. Good luck girls!

Next week, pupils will find out who their teachers are for next year. There will be an opportunity for parents to meet the new class teachers next Thursday, during our final curriculum evening of the year. We hope to see you all there!

Key Stage One had a great start to their week with their sponsored Daily Mile, helping to raise money for Herts Vision Loss.

Again, we were lucky with the weather and delighted that parents and other family members were able to join us for this event.

Thank you to the families who have already sent in their sponsor money. We are hoping to present the money raised to Herts Vision Loss next week so please send in any outstanding sponsor money by Monday.

The Summer Reading Challenge will take place again this year in libraries across Hertfordshire.  Children can sign up at our local library and then read six library books of their choice to complete the Challenge. It’s FREE to take part and will help keep your children busy and practise their reading skills during the holiday.        https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

This morning, our September 2019 reception children visited Bowmansgreen for their second ‘play and stay.’ Mrs Stanley prepared a tasty breakfast for them and their parents and then they spent time in their new classroom, getting to know the staff who will be working with them in September. They were very well looked after by some of our current reception children who did a fantastic job of making them feel welcome, sharing their equipment and helping them try out new activities and experiences. Children, you really did yourselves proud with how kind, responsible and supportive you were towards the new class.  Thank you to all of the staff, visitors and children who helped to make this morning so successful. I look forward to working closely with our new parents and children in September.

With only two weeks to go and to help ensure that FOBS can finalise planning for the event, a deadline of this Sunday evening has been decided for all ticket purchases. This afternoon, 3S were learning about the Summer Solstice. In the UK – and the rest of the northern hemisphere – today is the summer solstice which means that it is the longest day of the year. I wonder what else 3S can remember about the Summer Solstice?

We are lucky to have such beautiful grounds at Bowmansgreen which pupils make good use of , not just at play times and for PE but also during their eco-days. Today, I joined Mrs Stanley, Theo, Dantae and Freddy in the wildlife area as they released some baby frogs into our pond. They also had a go at pond dipping and learnt to recognise when a baby frog can breathe out of the water.

Tomorrow, some of our Y2 and Y4 pupils will be performing in a concert at the Radlett Centre as part of the Radlett Festival of Music. Pupils have been busy rehearsing with Mrs Street for their performances which include songs from The Greatest Showman, Mary Poppins and Joseph. Good luck children and have lots of fun. I know you will be amazing!

The KS2 sponsored Daily Mile took place this morning. Pupils and staff ran or walked the route to raise money for Herts Vision Loss. It was lovely to see some of our parents join their children for this activity.

Next Monday, it’s the turn of KS1 and EYFS!

Thank you to everyone who visited or helped at the Bowmansgreen Summer Fair on Saturday. It was a great day out and well supported by the school community. We were really lucky with the weather which helped to make the day such a great family day out. Fantastic dancing by Excel Performing Arts and super singing by the school choir and Y2 and Y4 singers  – what a talented school community we are!
A special thank you to Nicola and the FOBS committee for organising this event.

On Tuesday, Anthony Glenn visited Bowmansgreen to deliver a ‘Shaking up Shakespeare’ performance of Macbeth. Pupils and staff were thoroughly entertained by his show which included some cameo roles from pupils across the school. It was a fantastic, interactive experience which inspired and delighted the whole school – something pupils will remember for years to come. I have not heard our reception pupils giggle so much!

On Monday, pupils in KS2 will be taking part in a sponsored Daily Mile. Parents are welcome to join their children for this activity – see the sponsor form for timings and details. The following Monday (June 24th), it is the turn of KS1.

I am sad to announce that Lisa Cutmore will not be returning to Bowmansgreen after her time off this year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all of her hard work and commitment to the pupils and families of Bowmansgreen and wish her well for the future.

Yesterday, Jennie from Jousters Childcare joined parents at breakfast club, to say hello and answer any questions about the new after school club starting at Bowmansgreen in September. We hope that parents found the opportunity useful and had your questions answered and any concerns allayed. We are looking forward to working with Jousters and are excited at the prospect of our new provision.

Members of the FOBS committee have been busy all year, preparing for today’s Bowmansgreen Summer Fair. The final touches are currently taking place and with dry weather and sun forecast for most of the day (fingers crossed!), it promises to be a great family event and day out.

This is the first Friday without an ‘official’ weekly newsletter. From now on, we hope to be able to relay school information, events and news more effectively, through blogs, posts and links to the school website so that communication can be spread throughout the week, as school life happens. Please encourage friends and family to download the school app so that they can also keep up to date with news about the Bowmansgreen school community.

It was lovely to see so many pupils taking home new titles at this month’s book swap which took place this afternoon. I really enjoy this event as it is heartening to see so many excited faces taking home books to share, read and enjoy. Inspiring and motivating pupils to read for pleasure is a responsibility we share with parents, to support pupils develop their language and communication skills as well as a wide range of other life skills such as forming opinions and developing their imaginations.  If you have any books that your child has outgrown or no longer reads, please send them in so that we can add them to our book swap library. Next book swap event: Thursday July 4th.

We are noticing an increasing number of pupils arriving to school not wearing the correct school uniform. We appreciate that we are in the final half-term of the year and parents are reluctant to buy new uniform but we must insist that standards are maintained. Please ensure that your child has full school uniform every day, including footwear. Trainers are only acceptable if they are all black – bright logos and lettering are not permitted. We will be reminding pupils of uniform expectations next week and contacting parents if we have ongoing concerns about their child’s uniform.

On Tuesday, Anthony Glenn will be visiting Bowmansgreen to deliver a ‘Shaking up Shakespeare’ performance of Macbeth. Pupils are in for a treat as the performance involves audience participation and lots of humour.

One week to go until the Bowmansgreen Summer Fair! On Thursday, pupils can wear non-uniform in exchange for items donated for the tombola.

On-line Safety

Today, all pupils are attending on-line safety workshops to learn about how to keep themselves safe when using the internet.

It would be great if parents could ask their children what they have learnt from their workshops and find out if they have any new ways of keeping safe on-line.

The session for parents takes place this afternoon at 5.30pm.
