Home Learning
At Bowmansgreen, we truly value the partnership between families and our school. To provide the best education possible, we recognise the role that Home Learning plays in developing skills and consolidating the knowledge that is taught in the classroom. Our Home Learning Policy has been formed to address the need for a clear, purposeful approach to Home Learning in our school. It sets out clear whole school practices for Home Learning.
Reception
Each half-term, children will be provided with a Home Learning Grid. This will consist of 8 tasks for the children to complete which complement the Early Learning Goals that they are working towards achieving in school: writing and numerical skills, communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, physical development, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. Parents and carers can share evidence of work in the child’s Home Learning Book or via Tapestry.
To complement their phonics lesson, each pupil in Reception will also have a daily Shared Reader Lesson. During this lesson, the pupils will have a phonetically decodable book which is exactly matched to their current phonics learning. These books will be sent home with the children to read at the end of the week with their parents and carers. These books are fully decodable (i.e. your child should be able to read every word) and are linked to the GPCs your child has learnt that week.
Year 1
Numbots is an online maths learning platform that helps children to learn how to add and subtract, improving their fluency and recall in basic mental maths and equipping them to be maths confident. We recommend that a little and often approach; 3 minutes of practice a day, 4 times a week, is a good target. For more information, please read the Numbots Guide for Parents and Carers.

There are some comprehension questions included at the back of each book which you can ask your child after reading.
Year 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
MyMaths is an interactive online teaching website that builds pupil engagement and consolidates maths knowledge. Log in details are provided by the school, alongside a guide for parents which will offer support on how to navigate the website.
Timestables Rockstars is an online maths learning platform that helps children to learn their timestables up to 12 x 12, improving their fluency and recall and equipping them to be maths confident. We recommend that a little and often approach; 3 minutes of practice a day, 4 to 5 times a week, is a good target. For more information, please read the Guide for Parents and Carers.
Children have been provided with a Reading Record, which includes helpful resources to support with phonics, spelling and reading comprehension. We expect children to read daily and for this to be recorded in their Reading Records. Parents and carers are encouraged to comment in their child’s reading record about their child’s reading.
Spelling
We regularly teach and assess spellings to help identify areas of need along with giving children time to take ownership of their own spelling errors through proofreading in English lessons. For Home Learning, children will be provided a list of spellings that complement their learning in the classroom. Each week, children will be expected to complete an activity based on these spellings.
