Phonics
If a child memorized ten words, the child can only read ten words, but if a child learns the sounds of ten letters, the child will be able to read 350 three-sound words, 4,320 four-sound words, and 21,650 five-sound words." Dr Martin Kozloff
At Bowmansgreen we teach phonics to our Reception and Year 1 children using a systematic synthetic phonics approach. FFT Success for All Phonics is an engaging phonics programme designed to help your child develop essential reading skills. This structured approach introduces phonics through fun activities and interactive materials that help support all children to succeed. FFT uses systematic teaching methods that ensure children learn to decode words confidently.
Through daily teaching, children will explore phonemes, graphemes, and words in a way that makes learning enjoyable and memorable. Regular assessments allow teachers to keep track of your child's progress, helping to identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
FFT encourages a love of reading by allowing children to apply their phonics knowledge to various texts, fostering confidence and enthusiasm. By strengthening their reading abilities, your child will be well-prepared to tackle new challenges, setting the stage for a lifelong journey in literacy.
