Science
Science is unlocking the secrets of the universe.
Intent
Our Science curriculum is designed to inspire students and nurture their natural curiosity about the world around them. Their working scientifically skills are the foundation for understanding the world around us. Our Science curriculum, encourages the children to respect living organisms as well as the physical environment. Through developing these skills such as enquiry we will encourage pupils at Bowmansgreen Primary School to unlock the secrets of the universe and begin to envisage the future possibilities.
Implementation
Our Science curriculum is delivered through well-sequenced lessons which enables children to make meaningful connections across the subjects. It is important that children are provided with opportunities to experience Science ‘hands on’ where they participate in experiments and develop their working scientifically skills whilst allowing them to put theory into practice. In addition, children are encouraged to work collaboratively during practical lessons to enable them to foster the communication skills they need.
Impact
The impact of the Science curriculum at Bowmansgreen is shown by the children developing in confidence in their understanding of the scientific knowledge and working scientifically skills. Children are assessed in a number of ways including verbal and written feedback. Pupil voice has shown that children are enthusiastic about Science, which allows leaders to look at the impact of the curriculum and lets children demonstrate their knowledge and understanding to members of staff. By the end of Key Stage 2, children will have had the experience in scientific experiments, working critically and developing their communication skills.
