Bowmansgreen Academy
Bowmansgreen Academy is an exciting initiative designed specifically for our Year 6 students as they prepare to transition to secondary school. During the final half-term of primary school, our children embark on this enriching experience, where they are assigned to a Form Group and receive a timetable that mirrors that of our main feeder school, Samuel Ryder Academy.
In this programme, pupils are taught by various teachers throughout the school, allowing them to engage with a diverse range of subjects and teaching styles. This not only helps to familiarise them with the concept of moving between different classrooms and teachers daily but also promotes essential skills in time management and responsibility. Children learn to arrive punctually to their classes, equipped with the necessary exercise books and materials, laying the groundwork for the routines and expectations they will encounter in secondary school. Classes are mixed regularly, encouraging students to collaborate with a variety of peers. This mirrors the diverse and dynamic environment they will experience in Year 7.
As part of the programme, Home Learning for Year 6 will focus on their transition to secondary school. For the remainder of the school year, pupils will be set an activity which will guide them in thinking about, and facilitate discussions at home on, beginning Year 7.
Bowmansgreen Academy effectively nurtures our students' growing independence, significantly enhancing their readiness for the next phase of their education. By fostering an atmosphere of excitement and support, we aim to give our children the best possible chance of flourishing and achieving their true potential as they embark on their secondary school journey.
