Headteacher’s Blog

Today, your child found out who their new class teacher will be in September. They spent some time in their new classrooms, getting to know their new class staff and sharing some information about themselves. We hope that pupils found this activity helpful, as part of their transition to their new year group.

We have lots of new staff to welcome in September and some changes of year group for other staff. We also have a number of staff moving on from Bowmansgreen this year and therefore some goodbyes to say. Staffing update to follow.

Congratulations to Abigail, Isabella and Harrison who have been selected to join the district football squads for the season. This is a fantastic achievement and I am sure they will practise hard, play well and do themselves and their teams proud.

On Sunday June 26th, I attended Reverend Pat’s final service at St Peter’s Church. Reverend Pat will be leaving St Peter’s at the end of the month. It was lovely to see her lead the service for the local community, family and friends. Somehow Reverend Pat also managed to find the time to be a school governor at Bowmansgreen during her time in London Colney. On behalf of Bowmansgreen, I would like to thank Pat for her commitment to our school and its community and wish her and her family well as they embark on a new chapter in their lives.

As the number of cases of chicken pox and viral infections across school finally subsides, we now have an increasing number of positive cases of Covid-19 back at Bowmansgreen. For the last fortnight, staff and pupils have been off unwell with Covid and the situation in St Albans is worsening. With this situation in mind, we will be adjusting some of our end of year events so that they can go ahead with the least amount of risk to our school community, as possible.

Our curriculum evening this afternoon (3 – 4pm and 6 – 7pm) will therefore take place outside. Yes, we have picked the windiest day of the week…. but we will make it work!

Late arrivals – if your child arrives late to school, we ask that you walk your child down to the school office to sign them in. There are an increasing number of pupils arriving after 8.45am who walk themselves into school unaccompanied. Please ensure that you sign your child in at the school office and support them with their late arrival to school, as children often find this experience an uncomfortable and unsettling start to their day.

Free Track Cycling Session for Girls – As part of a drive to encourage more girls into sport, Welwyn Wheelers/British Cycling are offering free track cycling taster sessions at the outdoor Velodrome at Gosling Park Welwyn Garden City. These fully coached sessions are aimed at providing a pressure free, female only, introduction to track riding where everyone starts together. Contact Welwyn Wheelers for more information.

HAPpy camps are back this summer! Hertfordshire County Council is once again funding free summer activity camps for children and young people who attend a Hertfordshire school and are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. At the sessions, eligible children and young people can enjoy free food, free sports and free craft activities this summer. They will also receive advice on nutrition and cooking skills to enhance their health and wellbeing. If your child is eligible and you have not yet received your code please ask at the school office. Bookings can be made via the Herts Sports Partnership’s website.

Our new minibus has arrived! Thank you to FOBS for helping to fund a new minibus that we look forward to being able to use in the autumn term.

The weather on Monday and Tuesday is forecast to be very hot! All pupils may wear their uniform PE kits to school, on both of these days.

We will be holding two nearly new uniform ‘sales’ next week – they will be set up on the KS1 playground during the morning drop-offs on Monday and Wednesday morning. Please help yourself to any of the items.
