Severe Weather Conditions

We will make every effort to keep school open. However, in exceptional circumstances severe weather may mean that it is unsafe for children and staff to get in to school. If it becomes necessary to close the school or delay opening, parents/carers will be sent a text (if you have changed your mobile number recently please let us know.) Please bear in mind that when mobile phone networks become busy, text messages can be delayed.
With this in mind, please also follow the guidance below:

Please find below the dates for the food bank at The Baptist Church, Kings Road. It is open between 10.00 am & 11.00 am on: Monday 11th December.

Headteacher’s Message – 24.11.17

This morning we enjoyed a special celebration assembly which featured a concert performed by pupils who have music lessons with Mrs Street. It was great to see and hear the progress that they have made since their last concert and it is further proof of just how talented they all are. I was so impressed by the confidence and courage of these children to perform in front of such a large audience and they should all be very proud of themselves. Thank you to Mrs Street for organising this concert and to parents for supporting your children with their practising and lessons.
Please can parents be aware of arrangements for this year’s carol concert. This concert will be performed by Y3 and Y4 and will take place on Friday December 15th at 9am.
This week’s parent workshop focused on supporting children with the Key Stage Two maths curriculum. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we hope that the parents who attended found the session useful. Thank you to Miss Golding and Miss Chilton for leading this workshop. Mrs Stanley and Mrs Manly have been busy planning up and coming workshops which will include sessions focused on first aid, spelling, e-safety, inspiring girls and asthma awareness. We really appreciate your support for these workshops and we are always open to suggestions for future sessions.
Next week we will be sending out a letter regarding school clubs for the Spring term and our new booking arrangements.
There is just over one week to go until Winter Wonderland. Thank you for supporting FOBS with your donations, teddy bears and wrapped presents. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible next Saturday for a fantastic day and the opportunity to raise money for the school. Have a lovely weekend.

Breakfast Club News from Mrs Stanley – 24.11.17

This week has seen the start of our Christmas activities and Christmas card production is in full swing! I hope those who have received wonderful, glittery cards already have been impressed. Arts and Craft days are Tuesday and Thursday, so come along and make all your friends their cards.
We tried a new Dance Programme on Wednesday which was very popular. So if dancing is your thing, then come along each Wednesday and have some fun.
Open every day from 7.30am. See you there.

Home Learning

I would like to take this opportunity to convey our many thanks for the support you are giving to your children, with regard to their home learning. Across the school, we have seen a huge improvement in the quality of work that the children are producing. It really is wonderful to see them taking so much care and pride in their learning. There have been some truly exceptional pieces of home learning, where the children have put an incredible amount of effort and time into their work. This is exemplified by the: Anglo-Saxon villages, Viking villages and Viking ships that have been created by pupils in Year Five.

Throughout the school, the teachers are noticing how home learning is now positively impacting on classwork. The children are applying the spellings they are learning, within their written work, becoming more secure with mathematical concepts and have a much greater range of ideas for their writing. We are committed to raising the outcomes and rates of progress for every child and your support is greatly appreciated.

Year 3 & 4 Carol Concert – Friday 15th December @ 9.00 am

This year our annual carol concert will be performed by the children in Year 3 and Year 4, rather than the whole of KS2. We understand that some parents/carers may be disappointed but we get an increasingly large number of people coming along and are restricted on the amount of children/adults we can have in the hall under our fire and safety regulations.
Our Year 6 children will be the main participants in the Christingle at St Peters Church on Friday 1st December, to which Year 6 parents/carers are invited.

Parent Workshops

It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers at our recent workshops, based on how to support your child with maths. Many thanks to those parents and carers who have completed the online evaluation and for the exceptionally positive feedback and comments we have received. During the parent workshops, some parents have explained that some of the mathematical vocabulary used within school is unfamiliar to them. Below is a link to an interactive maths dictionary that explains and exemplifies mathematical vocabulary and can be used as a tool for your reference, when supporting your child with their learning.

School Admissions Consultation 2019/20

Hertfordshire County Council is running a consultation on the proposed admissions arrangements for the school year 2019/20 and is seeking responses from parent/carers, schools and community groups.
The proposed changes are:
1. To amend the wording and definition of ‘Rule 5 – Nearest School’ to include all schools and academies (regardless of status) unless that school or academy prioritises applications and allocates places on the basis of faith.
2. To include reference to the Shared Anti-Fraud Service in the definitions section in cases of fraudulent address verification.
The consultation period runs until 5 January 2018.
Please visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions2019 for more information and to respond online.
