Boys A v Mandeville The boys A team went the short distance to play Mandeville in an important league match last Friday. Having been knocked out of the Wix 7 a side by Mandeville, the lads knew it would be a tough match. Going behind early wasn’t the ideal start to the game but they responded in the best way possible and two good goals from Tommy – one a superb flowing one touch passing move – meant that at half time the score was 2-1 to Bowmansgreen.
Once again though, Mandeville scored early in the half to level the scores but the character in this squad showed through, as first James and then Ollie, gave the Bowmansgreen side a two goal advantage at 4-2 with four minutes to go. A late goal for Mandeville meant it was a tense finish, but the defence of Alfie, Freddie and Jack, plus Taye in goal, held firm to see the game through and a 4-3 win for Bowmansgreen. Squad – Taye, Alfie, Freddie, Jack, Ollie, Tommy and James Year 3 & 4 Boys v Garden Fields A group of Year 3 & 4 Boys were excited to be getting into the minibus to travel to play a football match against Garden Fields on Monday. With a mix of each year group playing against a very strong Year 4 side, the Bowmansgreen boys looked nervous when the game started and it took five minutes for them to settle into the pace of the match. Garden Fields took control as they had several chances before eventually taking the lead on the eight minute mark, doubling the lead four minutes later. The first half was dominated by the opposition but Bowmansgreen still created a few good scoring opportunities – Ollie and Toby going close and Jason was thwarted by a good tackle as he found space on the edge of the penalty area.
The 2nd half was completely different. The defensive quartet of Archie, Luca, Max and Harry stood firm while Jed and Jason kept probing passes to Toby and Ollie while Lennon came into the game and was superb. The Garden Fields keeper had to work hard in the 2nd half to keep the attacking Bowmansgreen team at bay. Goalmouth scrambles, good defending and goal keeping and close shots meant that the final score in an entertaining game was Garden Fields 2-0 Bowmansgreen. Well done to all the players who should be proud of their performances. Squad – Archie, Luca (c), Max, Harry, Jason, Ollie, Jed, Toby and Lennon Girls B v Skyswood The girls B team, including three Year 4’s, hosted Skyswood on Wednesday. Goals from Jacey and Ava gave the girls a 2-0 victory in a match that was dominated by Bowmansgreen. Daisy, in goal for the 1st half, didn’t touch the ball so she was moved out to play in attack for the 2nd half. The midfield of Anisa, Elissa and Kiera were determined to work hard and protect the defence of Bianca and Ava while Jacey caused all sorts of problems with her strong running and ball skills. In all, it was a confident performance and it looks good for the future of Bowmansgreen girls’ football. Squad – Daisy, Anisa, Bianca, Kiera, Jacey, Elissa and Ava
