Boys B v Aboyne Lodge
The boys B football team played the last league match of the season against Aboyne Lodge, who were at the top of the league. The game started well for Bowmansgreen as their quick attacking breaks and pressure kept the Aboyne keeper busy without having the luck to score the first goal. Defensively Dylan and Adam were solid in protecting Taye plus with Owen, Jack and Andrew working tirelessly in midfield trying to provide decent service to Zeph, it looked very promising indeed. Aboyne Lodge did take the lead two minutes before half time, as the lively forward rode one challenge and then smashed the ball past Taye into the top corner. Half time arrived and although behind by one goal, Bowmansgreen were still in the game.
The 2nd half was totally different and Bowmansgreen took control of the match. On came Evan and Tobi to freshen things up. It was soon 1-1 as Zeph collected the ball on the right hand side and then shot across the keeper into the far corner. It was a special goal. From then on, it was end to end and Taye had to be alert twice and sharp off his line to thwart Aboyne from taking the lead again. Tobi was constantly involved in the game as his pace caused all sorts of problems. After going close three times, it was forth time lucky as he found himself one on one with the keeper and managed to toe poke the ball into the net. The score could have been more comfortable for Bowmansgreen but for the ball narrowly missing the post several times. Overall it was a fantastic performance from the team and probably the best of the season so far.
Squad – Taye, Dylan, Adam, Jack, Andrew, Zeph, Owen, Evan and Tobi.
Boys A v Cunningham Hill
The boys played Cunningham Hill in the biggest game of the season so far, with so much depending on the result. Cunningham Hill would win the league if they won and Bowmansgreen would move level on points with them at the top of the league. The first half was very tight with very few chances at either end. Bowmansgreen had lost 6-1 in the away fixture and were determined not to have the same score line again. Tommy and Ollie were pressing as high as they could, and when in possession, were looking for the runs of James.
Alfie, Isa and Freddie were steadfast in protecting Taye in goal and gave the free scoring Cunningham forward no real clear cut chances. After being so tight and compact in the first half, the first goal came after 30 seconds in the 2nd half. Unfortunately it came for Cunningham Hill as they took the lead from a goal mouth scramble and the forward was quickest to pounce on the loose ball to toe poke the ball past Taye. Bowmansgreen fought hard and battled gamely, Laila had come on for her first boys game and was a constant thorn for the Cunningham defence. Bowmansgreen were pushing forward for the equaliser, the decisive 2nd goal came from a fast Cunningham Hill counter attack. The final score was 2-0 to Cunningham Hill, but an improved and impressive performance against the league winners was a huge positive and shows how far this team has come. With one more game to play, there is plenty to play for as 2nd place in a very tough league is still up for grabs.
Squad – Taye, Isa, Alfie, Freddie, Tommy, Ollie, James, Jack and Laila
