Boys A v Maple
The boys had a friendly match against Maple on Thursday 7th December and it didn’t start well for the Bowmansgreen team. Being 4-0 down at half time told the story of the first half.
The second half was a different story – Bowmansgreen started to believe that they could compete and began to make tackles, mark the players they had to and also defend properly. The team can always score goals and James made a scoring breakthrough early on and when George scored a second, the comeback was on. James then made it 4-3 with five minutes remaining and a positive result looked possible but the final whistle went too soon for the boys.
If the half was longer than fifteen minutes then an equaliser looked to be coming. The second half performance was superb and proved how good the team can be when everything clicks.
Squad – Taye, Alfie, Jack, Isa, George, Freddie, Tommy (c), Ollie, James.
A big thank you to Taye and Dylan, who were the referees for the last two games against St. Peter’s and Maple. What a superb job they both did and the school should be proud they were confident enough to put their hands up and want to do a hard job.
Boys B v Samuel Ryder
The boys B team played the final school game before Christmas against Samuel Ryder yesterday. Samuel Ryder took control of the match early on and opened the scoring after two minutes and then doubled the advantage after eight minutes. It was a slow start from the Bowmansgreen Boys. Dylan got Bowmansgreen back into the game when he broke away on the right hand side and crossed for Zeph to make it 2-1 just before half time.
The 2nd half was the complete opposite. With several players moving into different positions, Bowmansgreen looked the more likely to win the game and equalised through Tiago’s quick reactions inside the penalty area. Bowmansgreen then took the lead when Zak broke away, passed the ball to Zeph who then moved the ball into Andrew and he finished well. Adam, Hugo and Dylan defended much better than they had in the first half, and Simon’s handling in goal was superb.
Samuel Ryder made the final score 3-3 with a late goal, then Zeph nearly scored a winning goal but the keeper made a great save.
Squad – Simon, Hugo, Dylan, Zak, Adam, Tiago, Andrew, Zeph.
