The Boys A team travelled to play a strong Oakwood team yesterday which included Mr Gowler’s cousin, Josh and Mrs Robertson’s son George.
The game was very even early on as both defences were on top, with plenty of endeavour and commitment shown by both sides. Alfie, Isa and Freddie contained the lively Oakwood forwards while James’ movement in attacking positions kept the Oakwood defenders occupied while Tommy and Ollie looked to be creative. Bowmansgreen took the lead when Ollie delivered a cross from the left hand side, and even though it had a slight deflection, Ollie claimed the goal as the cross was sneaking in at the far post. Several chances followed for both teams but as earlier, the defences held firm to keep the score 1-0 as half time approached, and Jack had come on for Ollie.
The 2nd half continued in much the same vein as the game flowed from one end to the other. Taye was alert as Oakwood looked to equalise. They eventually did with seven minutes to go. It was a breakaway attack from a Bowmansgreen corner and finished well. This seemed to spur the Bowmansgreen team on and towards the end of the game, Alfie nearly won the game as his shot clipped the post and went away for a goal kick. Taye then produced a decent save with a minute to go and keep the scores level and a score line which reflected the match.
Oakwood 1-1 Bowmansgreen
