Bowmansgreen in the Snow!

The snow may have prevented the school from opening on Monday, on Tuesday however, the children were able to return to school and they thoroughly enjoyed playing in what was left of the snow!

Headteacher’s Message – 15.12.17

Today, we have had an exclusive! This morning, Year 3 and Year 4 performed Bowmansgreen’s first ever carol concert in Spanish…… and it was amazing! Parents were thoroughly entertained by fantastic singing, acting and Spanish and it was a pleasure to watch. We hope that family members enjoyed the concert and I am sure they will join me in saying thank you to all of the staff involved in making it such a wonderful concert.
On Wednesday, staff and pupils enjoyed Christmas lunch together. Traditional Christmas food was served by some of our Year 6 pupils, including our always-reliable house captains. Crackers and Christmas songs helped to make it a very special lunchtime. As always, pupils were very well-mannered and behaved and from the feedback, empty plates and smiles, they all enjoyed themselves.
It was lovely to see pupils in their Christmas jumpers today, helping to raise funds for Save the Children as well as ensuring that they looked very festive for their class Christmas parties. Thank you to all parents who sent in food – do not be surprised if your child does not eat as much dinner as usual tonight!
On Monday, we will be holding our first Bowmansgreen ‘house’ event of the year. All pupils will be working, as part of their house team, on a piece of Christmas craftwork. The finished articles will be displayed and judged and a winning house will be announced. We hope this will be the first of many fun house activities which pupils will take part in throughout the year.
With a day and a half left of the term, this will be the final newsletter of 2017. Please remember that school closes at 1.30pm on Tuesday (Golden Opportunities is open until 4.30pm).
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy holiday and we look forward to seeing you in 2018.

Breakfast Club News from Mrs Stanley – 15.12.17

We have had a lovely year and served many thousands of Breakfasts! Have a restful and peaceful break and we wish you all the very best for 2018.
See you bright and early on Monday 8th January 2018 at 7.30am.

Sports News from Mr Sanders – 15.12.17

Boys A v Maple
The boys had a friendly match against Maple on Thursday 7th December and it didn’t start well for the Bowmansgreen team. Being 4-0 down at half time told the story of the first half.
The second half was a different story – Bowmansgreen started to believe that they could compete and began to make tackles, mark the players they had to and also defend properly. The team can always score goals and James made a scoring breakthrough early on and when George scored a second, the comeback was on. James then made it 4-3 with five minutes remaining and a positive result looked possible but the final whistle went too soon for the boys.
If the half was longer than fifteen minutes then an equaliser looked to be coming. The second half performance was superb and proved how good the team can be when everything clicks.
Squad – Taye, Alfie, Jack, Isa, George, Freddie, Tommy (c), Ollie, James.
A big thank you to Taye and Dylan, who were the referees for the last two games against St. Peter’s and Maple. What a superb job they both did and the school should be proud they were confident enough to put their hands up and want to do a hard job.
Boys B v Samuel Ryder
The boys B team played the final school game before Christmas against Samuel Ryder yesterday. Samuel Ryder took control of the match early on and opened the scoring after two minutes and then doubled the advantage after eight minutes. It was a slow start from the Bowmansgreen Boys. Dylan got Bowmansgreen back into the game when he broke away on the right hand side and crossed for Zeph to make it 2-1 just before half time.
The 2nd half was the complete opposite. With several players moving into different positions, Bowmansgreen looked the more likely to win the game and equalised through Tiago’s quick reactions inside the penalty area. Bowmansgreen then took the lead when Zak broke away, passed the ball to Zeph who then moved the ball into Andrew and he finished well. Adam, Hugo and Dylan defended much better than they had in the first half, and Simon’s handling in goal was superb.
Samuel Ryder made the final score 3-3 with a late goal, then Zeph nearly scored a winning goal but the keeper made a great save.
Squad – Simon, Hugo, Dylan, Zak, Adam, Tiago, Andrew, Zeph.

Home Learning from Miss Golding

I can confirm that no home learning has been set this week and that there will be no home learning over the Christmas holiday. Home learning will next be set on Thursday, 11th January. Thank you to all parents/carers for the support you have offered your child, with their home learning, this term.

Winter Wonderland

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the fair – we raised an amazing £3700.

School is Closed

Monday 11th December 2017 – School is closed today due to severe weather warnings. We hope to be open as usual tomorrow.

Severe Weather Conditions

We will make every effort to keep school open. However, in exceptional circumstances severe weather may mean that it is unsafe for children and staff to get in to school. If it becomes necessary to close the school or delay opening, parents/carers will be sent a text (if you have changed your mobile number recently please let us know.) Please bear in mind that when mobile phone networks become busy, text messages can be delayed.
With this in mind, please also follow the guidance below:

Headteacher’s Message – 7.12.17

Key Stage One has been extremely busy this week! Especially for Father Christmas, the Jolly Postman and Mr Rushforth! Your children have sung, entertained and really shone during their Christmas performances and judging by their huge grins, they have thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Thank you for supporting your children with costumes and learning their lines. They looked and sounded great!
We are really sorry that we had to change the seating expectations for the KS1 performances at such late notice. The fire safety regulations that we were recently reminded of relate to the amount of chairs we can have in the school hall if there are people also sitting on the floor. With the safety of your children our priority, we know the decision to limit seats was unhelpfully late and unpopular but we hope you understand that it was necessary. We are already thinking about how to prevent this from being an issue next year.
Thank you to the parents who attended this week’s parent workshop. Pastor Adrian Woods provided information about how to access free, independent legal advice as well as the support available to local residents from the Churches Together foodbank. If you have any time or donations to give to the foodbank, Adrian would love to hear from you via email: londoncolneybc@gmail.com. Debbie Stewart shared some tips and suggestions about looking after our own well-being, especially during this busy festive period. Please see Debbie’s top tips for managing stress over Christmas, attached to this newsletter.
These workshops have become a really worthwhile and well-supported part of our work with parents. Please look out for the timetable of spring workshops from Mrs Manly and Mrs Stanley. Next week is the final parent workshop of 2017. Please come and join us for a cup of tea, a mince pie and share your thoughts and suggestions about future workshops.
Today was the final celebration assembly of 2017 and as always it was a pleasure to celebrate the successes and achievements of our fantastic pupils. Today that included congratulating super swimmers Leila, Jack and Lola who all took part in a local championship last weekend. Well done!
